Tuttons 6/10

This week we went to Tuttons in Covent Garden. We were happy with the experience, it's 'modern European' cuisine but the deco is old timely, I felt like a real lady dining here but it would have been improved upon if we hadn't been seated near the doorway with a wonderful London breeze.
We started with Roasted figs stuffed with goats cheese on toast, grapefruit&roquette salad for £6.25 which was delicious! The figs were perfectly cooked so no fault there, isn't the presentation lovely?

Then I had the Smoked haddock fish cake with sautéed spinach for £15.25 (although I really wanted the burger!) and mum had the Beer battered haddock fillet for £16.95.
Both meals were yummy but we both had bones... Who expects a bone in a fish cake when the fish is mashed? Ridiculous.

Then for pudding we shared a Creme Brûlée for £5.95 that was pretty divine, perfect amount of crack -if you know what I mean- but not enough vanilla, I think it's nice to see the vanilla grains in a custard? No?

They were also very accommodating with our ginormous push-chair for Joe and the staff were polite.
Overall we loved it, eyes the meals are quite pricey but we went there because they accept the Tastecard, we got 2for1! So a wonderful 3course meal with drinks came to £40.

Pssst! Anyone can get two months free trial with Tastecard, which means that in loads of places you can get 2for1 or even 50% discount! Worth it! Click here to grab one!

The Waldorf 7.5/10

This week we dined at The Waldorf in Covent Garden, their afternoon tea is served in a beautiful Versailles-like room with a harp playing gently in the background. The prices vary from £25.00 per person to £34.00 if you want to turn it into a champagne afternoon tea although we managed to get ours on a Groupon deal which meant we got -50%. Bargain!

We first had a champagne cocktail with our mini sandwiches (we obviously had to re-order some of the smoked salmon ones as they are always the best) then on to tea and cakes.
This is when is went downhill, the scones were marvellous and traditional but the presentation of the cakes and tarts was quite disappointing and only one of each type!

Go for the scones and fruit tart, please avoid the dense green tea Madeleine.

And so it begins...

Starting this very week Geraldine Watson and myself, Daisy Watson will be lunching and critiquing. Whether it may be a chain restaurant one week or the chiquest of chique hotels the next... we will be out there.

Watch out Chefs, the Watsons' are coming.
